JAKE HOUSKA
Copywriter. Kansas City.

I’m Jake, a copywriter based in Kansas City. My work spans campaign ideas, scripts, digital experiences and long-form storytelling.
My wife, Anna, and our two little kids are the center of my life. We also have a very cute dog named Mario. I’m the second oldest of 14, with 13 foster siblings.
At VML’s Kansas City headquarters, I worked on Pfizer’s vaccine messaging during early COVID. At Digitas New York, I helped create some of Walmart’s most visible work, and the brand was named Ad Age’s 2022 Marketer of the Year during my second year on the account. I also spent a few years in finance.
I like complex subjects and intellectually ambitious work. I read about philosophy and science.
Outside client work, I write essays, poetry and screenplays. I once sold a short screenplay called Breaking Good, about a mess of a human who becomes a decent person. It never got made, but I still love screenwriting.
I grow hydrangeas, cactuses and flowers, plus hydroponic tomatoes, sage and oregano indoors. I’m also a personal-finance nerd who invests small amounts to feed the hobby.
